About UC Davis

Picture
I completed my undergraduate education at University of California, Davis, with a B.S. in Psychology in 2015. I originally had aspirations of Medical School and Psychiatry, but many positions I held as a student were in the fields of design and UX. In fact, the project I will describe on this page sparked my interest in UX, and led me to where I am today.

Design & Development of Hybrid Course

About the Project & My Role
As an undergraduate at UC Davis, I spent roughly a year and a half assisting  Cognitive Psychology professor and influential researcher, Dr. Steven J. Luck, design and develop a hybrid Cognitive Psychology course. This course was called a "hybrid" because it combined online and in-person lecture material. The purpose of my job was the following:
  • Devise an effective design scheme for the video lectures
  • Create the video lectures via Screenflow
  • Develop course modules in Adobe Captivate
I consider this project to be what sparked my interest in User Experience. Dr. Luck and I sent out a survey to students to obtain their feedback on the course, as it was the first time it had been launched, and we got a lot of positive feedback. In fact, the number of A students nearly doubled compared to that of the regular course design. However, I was very interested in what the students (i.e. the users) had to say about it. I wanted to make the ideal experience, and there were things that never would have crossed my mind if I hadn't asked users. This project excited and motivated me to seek a career in User Experience.
